User Guide

Introduction

Welcome to MapME, a simple web application carefully designed to make it easy to create ME Design project files (DGPX) seeded with geospatially referenced information relevant to the analysis and design of your pavement.

All data and visualization provided by MapME is approximate. MapME is intended only to seed new ME Design project files with helpful information from public data sources. Use of MapME does not replace any part of standard pavement design or engineering practice.

To use MapME, you first create one or more Areas of Interest (AOIs), and from each AOI you then create one or more MapME Projects. Each AOI represents a coarse-grained approximation of the environment in which your pavement design will be constructed, along with relevant spatially proximate data. Each MapME Project represents a finer-grained approximation of your alignment's intended geometry and includes some additional and more specific data, like analysis type and material structure.

Whenever you've created at least one MapME Project in an AOI, you can use MapME to download an archive containing the full set of that AOI's MapME Projects as DGPX files, one DGPX per MapME Project. These DGPX files are ready for you to open, view, and develop further with ME Design.

Functionality

You currently have no AOIs and no MapME Projects.

MapME allows the following actions:

You can create a new AOI by clicking the add button in the AOI panel title.
If you have two or more AOIs, you can show and choose from all of them at once on the map by clicking the map marker button in the AOI panel title.
You can create a new MapME Project within an AOI by following these steps:
1. Show the AOI. Its "Traffic & Soil" chart will appear.
2. Click and drag on the "Traffic & Soil" chart to designate a line segment approximately corresponding to the desired extent of your project. You can also slide and further adjust the boundaries of this extent on the chart.
3. Click the add button in the Projects panel title of the shown AOI.
You can show , edit , or remove any AOI or MapME Project by clicking the respective buttons next to its description. (Note that the currently shown AOI or MapME Project will have a white-on-blue check next to its description.)
You can view and adjust various aspects of MapME Project data by interacting with the charts and map elements provided through the MapME Project panel that appears below the map when a MapME Project is shown.
At any moment when you have at least one MapME Project created within a given AOI, you can download an archive of the ME Design DGPX files corresponding to that AOI's MapME Projects by clicking the download button in the Projects panel title of that AOI. (You can download an archive as often as you wish, and it will always contain all of the projects that currently exist for that AOI.) When the download is triggered and being processed, a blank browser tab will appear. When the download is ready and then begins, the blank tab will disappear. While waiting for the download to begin, you can go back to the MapME interface and continue to work.
